Book Club Meeting on October 2nd.

The Circles of Peace Book Club will be meeting to discuss our latest book selection-- When Religion Becomes Lethal: The Explosive Mix of Politics in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam by Charles Kimball. Light refreshments will be served. Brings friends and anyone who enjoys a good discussion, even if they did not get a chance to read the book.

Author Biography

Dr. Charles Kimball is Presidential Professor and Director of Religious Studies at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK. Between 1996 and 2008, he served as Chair of the Department of Religion and the Divinity School at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. During the 2006 fall term, Dr. Kimball was the Rita and William Bell Visiting Professor at the University of Tulsa. He is a graduate of Oklahoma State University and holds the M.Div. degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. An ordained Baptist minister, he received his Th.D. from Harvard University in comparative religion with specialization in Islamic studies. (Source)

Circles of Peace Book Club meeting this Sunday.

Circles of Peace members and friends, please bring yourselves to the home of Patrick and Alina Coryell this fine Sunday afternoon for a Circles of Peace Book Club meeting. We will continue our discussion of Gregory Boyd's book, share some snacks and drinks, and enjoy each other's company.

Circles of Peace Book Club meeting this Sunday.

Our second Circles of Peace book club meeting will take place this Sunday at the home of John Cooper. We will be discussing the first chapter of The Myth of a Christian Nation. If you haven't had time to read the entire chapter, please come anyway. Feel free to bring family and friends.

Food will be served beginning at 1 PM until 2 PM, at which time the meeting will begin and end at around 4 PM. Children are welcome.

Where: 3443 Arcadia Drive.

Driving Directions:

From Downtown, drive down University Blvd. into Alberta City... Turn right on Arcadia Drive besides Rite Aid. Go to the second stop sign and turn into our driveway immediately past the stop sign.

Coming from 15th street turn left just past Brown's garage. Turn left jsut past the Bible Methodist Church on Arcadia Drive. As you approach the first stop sign, turn left just prior to the sign into our driveway.

Although we are meeting at Grace Church, Circles of Peace is not affiliated in any way with Grace Church or its ministries. This first meeting will be a social get-together to meet one another and share our interests in the first book and/or peace and nonviolence. The Circles of Peace Book Club.

The Circles of Peace Book Club will meet for the first time on Sunday, February 6th from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. The Book Club is an opportunity for persons of different religious faiths and denominations to meet as friends and discuss books with an eye to peace and nonviolence. We are not attempting to teach a doctrine but rather to explore these ideas and beliefs with fellow human beings.

The first book we will read together will be The Myth of a Christian Nation: How the Quest for Political Power is Destroying the Church by Gregory Boyd. John Cooper has already purchased 25 copies of this book for a discount, and copies will be available at our first meeting. You can leave a donation for the book at the meeting, if you so desire OR you can purchase your own copy online from Amazon.

For those who prefer audiobooks, you can participate in this book club by downloading The Myth of a Christian Nation and listening to a chapter every month. The audiobook can be purchased for about $7.00 online at the AudiobookStore.

At the first meeting, we will introduce ourselves, enjoy light snacks, and explore the ideas of peace and nonviolence as we understand them. By the second meeting, we will be ready to discuss the first chapter of the book. We will try to meet monthly and discuss a chapter or two per month.

In keeping with a democratic spirit, the Book Club will have a different discussion leader every month. If you would like to lead a discussion, please let us know. We welcome discussion leaders.
